Hysterical

The playlist of this album was created to symbolize the individual experiences of various women musicians and I wanted the artwork to reflect that. To represent  the collective power and strength of women the cover design is based on the Frida Kahlo quote “Not fragile like a flower, fragile like a bomb.” By combining illustrated imagery of a traditional bomb with the wires becoming various beautiful, but deadly flowers I created a powerful symbol that juxtaposed the straight lines of the  album title typography. Bold colors were utilized much in the way that venomous animals display bright colors as a warning. The title “Hysterical” was used to represent historical  misconceptions of women.  The concept of this design and album as a whole demonstrates that common stereotypes of women distract many women from the fortitude that they contain.  A portion of the sales from the album and merchandise would benefit the non-profit organization Association for Women in Development (AWID).
